ABOUT THE NURSERY
The Mary Seacole Day Nursery and Family Support Unit is a registered charity and has been open since August 1991, on the Grounds of Coley Primary School until January 2006 and since then at the MAPP Centre.
MSDN received funding from the Neighborhood Nursery Initiative (Government Funded Scheme) which allowed it to expand its services from a 20 place setting to a 51 place setting; catering for babies 3 months, upwards. On 4th January 2006, the Nursery was able to move to its purpose built site at Mount Pleasant. This was possible with money gained from South East England Development Agency (SEEDA)
Parents who attend our nursery are encouraged to be involved with all aspects of the running of the nursery. For example, on the Management Committee the parents are encouraged to use their skills in positions like Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Fundraiser and Marketing. Parents also volunteer to be involved in one off projects like gardening, carnival stall also parent and staff barbeque and fun days.
We believe that a partnership with parents is crucial to the success of our service and the development of their child(ren). We want you to be involved in helping to make a stimulating and creative environment so that your child develops to his / her fullest potential.
We aim to be one of the best childcare provisions within the Reading district. We hope, with your help, the implementation of our aims will ensure that your child receives quality care while they are with us.
The nursery is a unique childcare provision that provides a culturally rich and stimulating learning environment. The curriculum is developed around the ‘Foundation Stage’ Learning and the babies/toddlers curriculum; follow the ‘Birth to 3 Matters’ programme.
We are looking forward to working with you and your child, and we want you to feel that you can discuss the development of your child in a warm and friendly manner We trust that you will feel apart of the way we care for your child while they are with us.
The Mary Seacole Day Nursery aims to respect the Heritage, Culture and Values of each child and family.
Through our multi-cultural curriculum each child will have the opportunity to develop his or her skills and abilities in a warm, secure, caring, non-racist and non-sexist environment. We will strive to promote a positive image of all cultural backgrounds and nurture personal development awareness and self-esteem.
The Curriculum offers a wide range of activities, which are linked to the six early learning goals.
